Sod Cutting Ceremony

HMD Africa attended the Sod Cutting Ceremony of the Ghana Commercial Agricultural Project (GCAP) on the Rehabilitation, Expansion and Modernization of Kpong Left Bank Irrigation Project (KLBIP) on the 11th of July 2018 in the Volta Region.

 

The Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture is implementing the above stated project with funding from the World Bank and USAID. The project development objective is “to improve agricultural productivity and production of both smallholder and nucleus farms in selected project intervention areas within the country.”

 

The project development objective shall be achieved through the following, facilitating investment promotion in commercial agriculture, promoting private sector investments and small-holder linkages in selected areas, rehabilitation and modernization of irrigation and reforming of irrigation institutions and management.

 

The president of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo was in attendance, along with the Minister of Food & Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa and other top government officials. HMD Africa was also represented by George Apostolopoulos, Geraint Griffiths, George Nehme and other staff from the sales, marketing and rentals department.

 

The key highlight activity of the event was the Sod cutting ceremony when the president was led by the contractors and other top government to climb on a Doosan excavator DX300LCA that had been provided by HMD Africa to dig the earth.

 

The project contractor is M/S OM Metals – SPML (JV) and the supervising consultants are M/S Wapcos Ltd, India / Agartec Services Ltd, Ghana.
